More Drupal 7 Alpha 6 Experimenting

In my last post about my first impressions of Drupal 7 alpha 6 I gave you an idea of how good it works and what contributed modules seems to work with it.

First Impressions of Drupal 7 alpha 6

As you know Nutshell is my little Drupal 7 experiment, running a live site on it. Its been a fun month and the more I work on it, the more I like how Drupal 7 is turning out.

Earlier today Drupal 7 alpha 6 was released and I was of course eager to test it. Both to see if I could easily update Nutshell to it and to check all the changes since alpha 5.

Drupal 7 alpha 6 Released - Overview of What is New

The Drupal 7 release date is getting closer. Last night (CET) Angie "webchick" Byron released Drupal 7 alpha 6 to the world. In this post I will give you a quick overview of what has changed since alpha 5.

Bets where on that it would be a beta this time, but we will have to wait a bit more for that. That it is a new alpha means that the upgrade path is not there just yet.

What is new in this release then?

Finding the Right Drupal Module for Your Needs

Finding the right module to use is not always easy. Every time I need to add features to a project I use these questions before I test the module myself:

Jen Simmons Bartik Theme now in Drupal 7 Core

Bartik ThemeAt 7:28 this morning (my time) Jen Simmons tweeted that "Bartik is in core!. This is great news since Bartik is a fantastic theme that really takes advantage of the new features in Drupal 7.

Is it a Car or an Airplane? No, its a CarPlane!

When I was living back home in Sweden, we had a airfield only four kilometres from our house. The airfield was used by a glider plane club and from spring to fall there very activity all the time, especially during the holiday season.

HowTo: Duplicate a Drupal 7 Website for Testing and Development

In this HowTo I will describe how I quickly duplicate Nutshell.nu so that I do further testing or development without affecting the live website.

This HowTo is based on Drupal 7 alpha 5. I don't see any reason for it not to work with both Drupal 6 and newer versions of Drupal 7 as well.

Requirements

You will need to install and configure the Backup and Migrate module on the website you want to duplicate. That is the only requirement needed there.

New Drupal 7 Release Next Week - Alpha or Beta?

A new Drupal 7 release didn't turn up this week. In a new tweet by Angie "webchick" Byron, last night, she wrote that it will be coming next week instead.

In the tweet she also writes that is TBD (To Be Decided) if this is going to be a new alpha release, or if it will move up one step and become a beta release. Previously Angie has said that the criteria for going beta is that the upgrade path from Drupal 6 has to be there.

IBM Selects Firefox as Default Browser for its Staff

In a blog post, IBM's Bob Sutor explains why IBM has selected Firefox as its default browser for all their staff.

This is a monumental endorsement for the Mozilla Firefox browser and I am sure it will have ripple effects throughout the whole IT world.

Bob lists some of the reasons IBM is opting for Firefox are:
