Delaying Drupal Update and Drupal Gardens

In my First Impressions of Drupal 7 alpha 6 post, two weeks ago, I wrote that I was planning to update Nutshell to the new alpha. Unfortunately I haven't done that yet. This is mainly due to that I am involved in several large website projects and simple haven't had the time for it.

Another reason is that Drupal 7 is very close to a beta release right now, which means that updating between Drupal 7 releases will be supported. That is not the case with alpha to alpha, which would have caused me a lot of extra work to both recreate the site from scratch and migrating the existing content. Thus, I have taken the decision to wait with the update until the next Drupal 7 release, fingers crossed that it will be a beta.

I am still testing and experimenting with the latest alpha locally, as well as daily snapshots from time to time. Drupal 7 is moving forward at a good speed. Sure, not as fast as we want, but this is a community effort and then it will have to take the time it takes. Plus that we of course want an as rock solid release as possible. Everyone involved; leaders, coders, testers, documentation writers are doing a fantastic work on making sure this will be the best possible release ever.

The more I experiment with Drupal 7, the more convinced I get it will be just that.

Get a Taste of Drupal 7

In the meantime, if you want a taste of Drupal 7, then get over to Drupal Gardens. Acquia launched it as a public beta yesterday so you can now instantly get an account and start playing with it.

I plan on reviewing Drupal Gardens this weekend, so stay tuned for that post.
