New Drupal 7 Release Next Week - Alpha or Beta?

A new Drupal 7 release didn't turn up this week. In a new tweet by Angie "webchick" Byron, last night, she wrote that it will be coming next week instead.

In the tweet she also writes that is TBD (To Be Decided) if this is going to be a new alpha release, or if it will move up one step and become a beta release. Previously Angie has said that the criteria for going beta is that the upgrade path from Drupal 6 has to be there.

36 Critical Issues left

Currently there are 36 critical issues left for Drupal 7. The number have been dropping at an accelerated phase lately, to much joy for all of us waiting for the real thing.

We now have the weekend, and maybe a few days in the beginning of next week, to get that number down even more before the release. Even if you are no PHP developer you can do your part by downloading and testing the latest dev snapshot or HEAD (requires CVS download). If you find any problems, feed it back to the issue queue.

Personally I am going to take a backup of Nutshell, using the excellent Backup and Migrate module, and test it out on my dev server.

That will give me a nice indication on how much is fixed, as well as quickly confirm that all the contributed modules I use here are still working fine.

Fingers crossed that it will go as sweet at possible.
