Digg loves Drupal
That Drupal is gaining momentum all over the Internet being used by more and more well known organisations is something we in the Drupal community are getting used to.
A few days ago, Scott Reynolds wrote the New Digg Drupal Modules post on Digg's Technology Blog about Drupal being used both for Digg About and their forthcoming developer site. He also mention that Digg are very existed about the upcoming Drupal 7 release.
Official Drupal Modules from Digg
Digg is not only building websites using Drupal, they are also contributing back to the community.
Besides the normal participating within the community they have also released two official Digg modules:
- Diggable - A module for integrating Digg on Drupal sites.
- Digg Login - Making it possible for visitors to login to Drupal websites using their Digg credentials. The module is using the OAuth protocol.
Both modules are hosted on drupal.org and maintained by the Digg engineers.
Benefits of Hosting on drupal.org
I believe it is very good for open source projects such as Drupal when companies such as Digg opts to host their official modules on drupal.org. Not only are they then fully embracing the Drupal way, but it is also making it much easier to assure that their modules works well with it.
It also shows that the leaders in the Drupal community is doing everything right. All the work that has gone into adding automated testing, as well as the recent changes to the security rules gives companies such as Digg benefits of hosting at drupal.org instead of their own websites.
They can there use all the tools available as well as reach a much wider audience.
I am sure we will see more companies choosing this in the future.
